Obi Advocates for Fair Treatment and Justice in Nigeria

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general elections, made a call for fair treatment and warned against selective justice while attending an event in the United States. He urged authorities to uphold the rule of law and ensure justice is administered without bias.

Obi referenced a viral video showing Hajiya Asiya El-Rufai, the wife of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, which prompted deep reflection on the nation's future. He emphasized that justice should be transparent and guided by due process, regardless of allegations against individuals.

Obi criticized the conditions imposed on suspects that prevent them from appearing in court, stressing that democratic institutions exist to protect the rights of every citizen, irrespective of political affiliation. He warned that the perception of selective justice erodes public confidence in the justice system and undermines national unity.

Obi called for law enforcement agencies to act professionally within the confines of the law to build a just society.
