KWACReSAL and IITA Launch Climate-Smart Agriculture in Kwara

The Kwara State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (KWACReSAL) Project has initiated a partnership with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) to promote climate-smart agriculture in Ijagbo, Oyun Local Government Area. The initiative began with the formation of Community Interest Groups (CIGs) aimed at implementing Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) and Farmer-Led Irrigation Development (FLID) interventions.

Alhaji Shamsideen Olatunbosun Aregbe, the State Project Coordinator, stated that Ijagbo is one of the pilot communities selected for this collaboration, which focuses on enhancing farmers' resilience to climate change through sustainable practices. Approximately 300 farmers will receive specialized training, demonstration-based learning, and free climate-smart seeds for crops like maize, sorghum, cowpea, and soybean, facilitated by experts from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and other research institutions.

The initiative is supported by the World Bank, the Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU), and the Kwara State Government under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. The Onijagbo of Ijagbo, Oba Sharafudeen Adeniyi Buhari Babalola I, expressed support for the project.
