Kwara Lawmaker Saba Gideon Resigns from APC

Saba Gideon, the lawmaker representing Edu State Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly and chair of the House Committee on Livestock, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC). His resignation, effective immediately, was confirmed during a telephone conversation in Ilorin on Thursday.

In a resignation letter dated August 19, 2026, addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Tsaragi Ward 3, Gideon expressed concerns over internal democracy, fairness, and inclusiveness within the party. He stated that his decision followed consultations with constituents and stakeholders.

Gideon's resignation comes after a strained relationship with the Assembly, which suspended him for three months on December 18, 2025, for allegedly recording a closed-door meeting and sharing it unlawfully. The suspension was challenged in court, and in February 2026, the Kwara State High Court ruled it unconstitutional, stating it violated Gideon's rights and was not supported by relevant legislative provisions.
