Kwara Police Seize AK-47s, Uncover Gun-Running Network
The Kwara State Police Command recovered two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, and 42 rounds of live ammunition during a stop-and-search operation along the Alapa–Okolowo axis of Ilorin. The weapons were found in a bag inside a commercial vehicle.
A 30-year-old suspect, Umaru M., initially denied ownership but later admitted to transporting the firearms. His confession led to a significant breakthrough, as he connected the firearms to another suspect, Dan Yarubawa, who allegedly provided the weapons for delivery to an individual named Dahiru outside Kwara State.
The police, led by Commissioner Adekimi Ojo, are intensifying efforts to apprehend the other suspects and dismantle the gun-running network. Ojo reassured residents of ongoing proactive measures to ensure safety and urged public cooperation in providing information to aid investigations.
