Kwara Transport Unions Urge Tinubu to Fix Collapsed Bridge

The Kwara State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria have made a formal appeal to President Bola Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for immediate intervention to reconstruct the Oko Olowo Moro bridge, which collapsed on April 30. The unions warned that the situation is crippling transportation and economic activities in northern Kwara State.

The bridge, which connects Kaiama and Baruten local government areas, has been abandoned since its project initiation in 2017 during former President Muhammadu Buhari's administration. The unions highlighted that the collapse has cut off access to essential services and has left transport workers and traders suffering significant losses, especially during the rainy season.

They urged the government to fast-track the reconstruction process and implement immediate measures to alleviate the hardships faced by the communities affected.
