Labour Party Names Bintu Konto as VP Candidate for 2027

On Tuesday, the Labour Party (LP) officially announced Hajia Bintu Konto as its vice presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections during an event at the party's national secretariat in Abuja. The session was attended by the party's national leadership, including its presidential candidate, Dr. Chibuzo Sunday Okereke, and National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman.

Usman stated that Konto's nomination reflects the party's commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice, highlighting the importance of selecting a female running mate in line with the party's "Mama, Papa, Pikin" philosophy. Konto was praised for her humanitarian experience and leadership credentials.

Okereke expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Konto, emphasizing the critical role of women in national development. Konto, who has a history of humanitarian work during the Boko Haram insurgency, pledged to focus on insecurity and people-centered policies if elected.

The unveiling is part of the Labour Party's preparations for the upcoming elections.
