Labor Protest Disrupts Activities at FUTA Teaching Hospital

A labor protest at FUTA Teaching Hospital in Ondo State disrupted hospital activities, prompting police intervention. The protest was organized by labor unions in response to disputes stemming from the recent conclusion of the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS) biometric capture exercise.

The unions claimed that hospital management failed to absorb 45% of inherited staff from the former University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, contrary to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Ondo State Government and the Federal Government regarding staff absorption. The labor movement alleged that the IPPIS exercise was irregular and excluded inherited workers, leading to a hostile work environment.

Union members reported that police fired tear gas within the hospital premises, causing panic among patients and staff, who reportedly fled the facility. The unions vowed to continue their protest until the Ondo State Government intervenes to resolve the dispute, and they called for a review of the appointment of Prof.
