Lagos State Implements Unified Sustainability Reporting Framework

The Lagos State Government has initiated a formal drive to adopt a unified sustainability reporting framework across its Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). This effort, outlined by senior government officials at a capacity-building program held in Alausa, aims to strengthen transparency and accountability in governance.

The framework is designed to harmonize fragmented reporting practices and align with global standards, reflecting Lagos's commitment to sustainable development. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu prioritizes inclusive growth and institutional reform, emphasizing that sustainability reporting serves as a tool for measuring impact and managing risks.

Oreoluwa Finnih, a special advisor to the governor on sustainable development, highlighted that the new approach is intended to improve decision-making across public institutions. Rabiu Olowo, Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, noted the adoption of international financial reporting standards to enhance the state's ability to provide structured information on environmental, social, and governance performance.

This initiative is expected to strengthen investor confidence and set a benchmark for sustainable governance across Africa.
