Lagos Assembly Calls for Tougher Action Against Vandals

The Lagos State House of Assembly convened on Monday to address the rising issue of infrastructure vandalism in the state. Lawmaker Moshood Aro, representing Ikorodu II, moved a motion highlighting the financial strain on residents due to the destruction of public facilities funded by taxpayer money.

Aro urged the state government to strengthen community-level security by adequately equipping and training the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps and other local security outfits. He insisted that the prosecution of individuals and businesses involved in the trade of stolen government property must be prioritized.

Aro emphasized that those arrested for vandalism should face proper legal consequences rather than being released without prosecution. Speaker Mudashiru Obasa supported Aro's call for stronger enforcement against both vandals and those facilitating the illegal market for stolen materials.

The Assembly stressed the need for better coordination among government agencies, security bodies, and communities to effectively tackle the vandalism problem.
