Lagos Seizes N2.5M Worth of Single-Use Plastics in Enforcement Operation

The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) confiscated styrofoam food packs and single-use plastics worth N2.5 million during enforcement operations in various markets and shopping malls across Lagos. Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun, the Corps Marshal, reported that the ban on styrofoam had been extended to include plastic due to repeated non-compliance by traders.

The seized items were found in markets in Agege, Oshodi, Idunmota, Mushin, Victoria Island, and Lekki, emphasizing the detrimental effects of plastic waste on the environment and public health. The ban on single-use plastics and styrofoam was implemented on July 1 to protect the environment.
