Lagos Developers Petition Government Over Waste Misclassification

The Association of Real Estate Developers of Lagos State (AREDOLS) submitted a petition to the Lagos State Government on August 10, signed by Chairman Kamil Shodeinde and General Secretary Ahmod Olukotun. The petition addresses the Lagos State Waste Management Authority's (LAWMA) classification of construction materials, such as planks and derricks, as refuse.

AREDOLS contends that these materials are recyclable and should not be categorized as waste, as this misclassification leads to undue financial burdens on developers and increases housing costs in Lagos. The group criticized LAWMA for neglecting its primary responsibility of managing domestic waste and urged the Lagos State House of Assembly to investigate LAWMA's performance and direct it to adhere to its core mandate.

AREDOLS called for legislative intervention to improve waste management and alleviate hardships faced by residents, emphasizing the need for accountability and effective service delivery by LAWMA.
