Tanker Collision on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Kills Six

On Friday night, a collision involving multiple vehicles, including a gas tanker and two cars, occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Eleja Bridge in the Guru Maharaji area of Ibadan, Oyo State. The accident, attributed to brake failure, resulted in six fatalities and left many motorists stranded for over ten hours.

Traffic was completely halted in both directions, leading to significant congestion that spilled onto adjacent routes. Passengers were forced to abandon their vehicles and trek long distances in search of alternative transport.

Kayod Adepoju reported that the gridlock persisted throughout Saturday despite ongoing rescue and evacuation efforts. Opeyemi Ojo described the situation as chaotic, with commercial motorcyclists increasing fares due to the traffic.

The Oyo State Fire Service, led by Adelek Adekunl, responded promptly to the scene, managing a fire outbreak caused by the collision. A total of 14 individuals were involved in the crash, with eight victims rescued and taken for medical attention.
