One Dead, Five Injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crashes

In the early hours of Friday, multiple accidents on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, specifically on Kara Bridge, resulted in one fatality and several injuries. The first crash occurred at approximately 12:05 am on the outbound carriageway towards Ibadan, involving five articulated trucks and one Toyota Sienna vehicle.

Elizabeth Jayeola, the Sector Public Education Officer of the FRSC, reported that preliminary investigations indicated the crash was due to speed violation and loss of control. Among the seven adult males involved, one person died, one sustained injuries, and five escaped unhurt.

Rescue operations were ongoing. A second crash happened at around 3:15 am on the inbound carriageway towards Lagos, involving a Mazda commercial bus, which was attributed to brake failure, leaving the driver seriously injured.

The injured were transported to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre for treatment. The accidents caused significant traffic congestion, extending from Kara Bridge to Ojota and Arepo, leaving many passengers stranded.
