Truck Accident Causes Major Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Gridlock

On Wednesday, a truck accident at approximately 3 a.m. near Kara Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway resulted in severe traffic congestion, stranding hundreds of motorists traveling from Lagos to Ogun State for several hours. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, represented by Afolabi Olawale, reported that a 40-foot bucket trailer, laden with bags of flour, overturned after crashing into the side rail due to overloading, causing the driver to lose control.

Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but the driver sustained severe injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital by officers of the Nigeria Police Force. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) temporarily halted vehicular movement to facilitate recovery efforts, which included transloading the cargo and recovering the overturned truck with assistance from private towing services.

The traffic backlog extended to New Garage and beyond, with joint traffic management efforts by LASTMA and the Nigeria Police Force. LASEMA's Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, praised the agencies for their prompt response.
