Lagos Government Tackles Illegal Space Encroachment

The Lagos State Government, via the Lagos State Informal Space Management Authority (LASISMA) and the Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA), is taking steps to combat illegal encroachment on informal and incidental open spaces within the council area. This initiative followed a courtesy visit by LASISMA's leadership to Honourable Bola Oladunjoye, the Executive Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA.

The discussion focused on enhancing collaboration for effective management of Informal Urban Spaces (IUS) and Incidental Open Spaces (IOS), curbing illegal encroachment, and improving compliance with physical planning regulations. Daisi Oso, General Manager of LASISMA, outlined the Authority's mandate and emphasized the need for a coordinated approach involving government institutions and local communities.

He requested the LCDA's assistance in stakeholder sensitization and enforcement of planning regulations. The Lagos State Government has issued a seven-day ultimatum for illegal occupants, including informal traders and roadside operators, to vacate public institution setbacks to prevent traffic congestion and ensure access for emergencies.
