Lagos NMA Elects Prof. Okunade as New Chairman

Prof. Sharafadeen Kehinde Okunade has been elected as the new chairman of the Lagos State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) for the 2026–2028 term following the conclusion of its 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections held on July 28, 2026.

Okunade is a professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, and a consultant at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). The election was supervised by the NMA's national leadership, led by President Prof.

Akhinde Ernest Omoti, and marked the introduction of electronic voting due to amendments in the association’s rules. The AGM also approved reforms to the Lagos State branch’s bye-laws, including the establishment of a Welfare Trust Fund.

Other officials elected for the State Officers’ Committee include Dr. Moruf Abdulsalam as First Vice Chairman and Dr.

Olabisi Olanrewaju as Second Vice Chairman, among others. The newly elected executive will focus on internal governance and members’ welfare over the next two years.
