Lagos Arrests 27 for Vandalism of Festac Bridge

The Lagos state government condemned the vandalism of the Festac Town–Alakija Link Bridge, announcing the arrest of 27 suspected hoodlums during a midnight enforcement operation. This operation was carried out by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) task force as part of efforts to restore order along the Lagos-Badagry Transnational Highway.

The enforcement drive aimed to address environmental pollution, illegal motor parks, roadside trading, and market displays on highway setbacks. Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, reported that extensive damage was discovered beneath the newly constructed bridge, with vandals removing critical structural materials such as iron rods and cables, jeopardizing public safety.

Following this alarming discovery, a coordinated raid led to the arrests, and the suspects will face prosecution under Lagos state laws.
