IGP Disu Urges Swift Redevelopment of Lagos Police Barracks

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, expressed his frustration regarding the delays in the redevelopment of police barracks across Lagos State during an inspection of 21 police barracks and related facilities. He noted that officers and their families have been waiting too long for decent accommodation, highlighting the deterioration of existing facilities.

Disu stated that decent housing is essential for effective policing, as officers deserve comfortable homes after their demanding duties. He mentioned a target timeline of December to January for some officers to move into newly completed accommodations, despite acknowledging ongoing project delays.

Disu ordered action to reclaim the former barracks site at Falomo from unauthorized occupants and announced plans to upgrade the Police Hospital there. He assured affected officers of accommodation allowances and the possibility of phased construction.

The Lagos State Government, represented by Special Adviser on Works and Housing, Toke Benson, is collaborating with the police and private developers to accelerate the construction of 1,000 housing units at Ije by next year.
