Lagos Police and Youths Collaborate for Community Safety

On Friday, the Lagos State Police Command, in collaboration with the Lagos State Government and youth leaders, held the Police-Youth Engagement Programme in Badagry, themed “Bridging the Gap: Youth-Police Engagement for Community Safety and Social Reform.” ACP Adeleke Smith represented CP Tijani Fatai and highlighted the need for stronger partnerships to address security challenges, especially with upcoming general elections. He urged youths to support community policing by providing credible intelligence and to reject cultism, cybercrime, and drug abuse.

Mrs Olubunmi Adesomoju, Director of the Lagos State Bureau of the Public Defender, emphasized the importance of dialogue to rebuild trust between the police and youths, noting that negative experiences have strained their relationship. She reminded police officers of the legal rights of arrested individuals and the necessity of compliance with the Administration of Criminal Justice Law to ensure fair treatment and admissibility of confessions in court.
