Nigeria Police Advocates Youth Guidance Against Crime

The Nigeria Police, Ogun State Command, called for collaboration among academic institutions, civil society organizations, parents, and community leaders to guide youth towards productive, vice-free lifestyles. During the 8th Set Academic Seminar of the Mass Communication Department at Al-Hikmah University, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi delivered a paper titled “Substance Abuse and National Insecurity: Building Responsible Youth Through Entrepreneurship.” He emphasized the connection between drug abuse and rising violent crime.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has intensified non-kinetic crime prevention strategies through targeted youth outreach and multi-agency advocacy. Babaseyi highlighted two major public sensitization initiatives: the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) and the Peace Club Abeokuta, which focus on steering youth away from cultism, substance abuse, and cybercrime.

He encouraged students to embrace entrepreneurship as an economic and security strategy, stressing the role of media practitioners in fostering responsible public discourse.
