Lagos Task Force Impounds 278 Motorcycles in Crackdown

The Lagos State Environment Special Offence Unit, led by CSP Adetayo Akerel, impounded 278 commercial motorcycles during a week-long operation targeting violations of the state’s ban on motorcycle operations on highways and restricted routes. This operation, which took place in various locations including Ikorodu, Agric Bus Stop, and Festac First Gate, was conducted in alignment with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.

The crackdown aimed to strengthen security, protect lives and property, and prevent criminal activities across the state. Akerel emphasized the agency's commitment to enforcing compliance with traffic and environmental laws, stating that the operation would continue until full compliance is achieved.

The operation also resulted in the arrest of several motorcycle operators found to be transporting illicit substances and hazardous items. The impounded motorcycles are subject to forfeiture in accordance with the law.
