Lagos TUC Rejects Rival Leadership Claims Amid Disputes

The Lagos State Council Trade Union Congress (TUC) has firmly rejected rival claims concerning the legitimacy of its leadership following a recent election. Aladetan Emmanuel was elected chairman during a delegate conference held earlier in the month, which involved 15 affiliated unions.

However, the election process faced disputes, leading to competing claims of leadership within the state chapter. Gbolahan Kabiawu, the council's public relations officer, stated that the process was properly observed but was later halted due to allegations of irregularities.

The council described the introduction of an altered delegate list during the election as undermining the credibility of the exercise and inconsistent with democratic procedures. The council reaffirmed that the election results reflect the authentic will of the affiliated unions and dismissed claims of a rival leadership as attempts to impose leadership outside established democratic processes.

The council raised concerns about potential intimidation linked to the disputes but remains committed to industrial peace and cooperation with stakeholders.
