UI Registrar Calls for Digital Transformation in Education

On Friday, Mr. Ganiyu Saliu, the Registrar of the University of Ibadan, delivered a lecture titled ‘The Future-Ready University Registry: Leading Institutional Transformation in an Era of Change’ at the 12th Annual Registry Discourse of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso. He urged Nigerian university registries to transition from traditional bureaucratic roles to becoming strategic drivers of institutional development.

Saliu described the Registry as the “nerve centre” of the university and highlighted the need for a shift from paper-driven processes to a digital-first approach. He pointed out that the current environment for public universities is characterized by challenges such as dwindling funding and rising student enrolment.

Saliu called for the adoption of Electronic Document Management Systems, integrated data, and agile policy adaptation. He stressed the importance of digital fluency and data privacy, advocating for continuous professional development and a proactive stance in institutional change.
