UI Registrar Advocates Digital Transformation at LAUTECH

Ganiyu Saliu, the Registrar of the University of Ibadan, called for a transformation of Nigerian university registries from traditional paper-driven systems to digital, data-driven centers during the 12th Annual Registry Discourse at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso. In his lecture titled, ‘The Future-Ready University Registry: Leading Institutional Transformation in an Era of Change,’ he described the registry as the “nerve centre” of the university, advocating for proactive strategies to drive institutional growth.

Saliu highlighted challenges such as dwindling government funding and increasing student enrolment, urging registries to embrace technology to mitigate risks associated with paper records. He recommended the adoption of Electronic Document Management Systems and the acquisition of digital skills by registry personnel.

Prof Razaq Kalilu, Vice-Chancellor of LAUTECH, supported Saliu's views, noting that artificial intelligence could aid in various administrative tasks but emphasized that technology should complement human judgment. LAUTECH Registrar, Mrs Olayinka Balogun, noted the university's stable academic calendar as a sign of institutional growth.
