LAWMA Clears Illegal Structures on Lagos-Badagry Expressway

The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has successfully cleared illegal traders and unauthorized structures along the Alaba Rago corridor on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. Dr.

Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director of LAWMA, confirmed this operation on Saturday, emphasizing the government's zero tolerance for environmental nuisances and indiscriminate waste disposal. The clearance was deemed necessary due to persistent illegal waste disposal obstructing sanitation operations and the encroachment of public spaces by traders and squatters.

The operation aims to restore environmental order, improve sanitation standards, and protect public infrastructure along this major transport corridor. Gbadegesin reiterated that activities undermining waste management operations will not be tolerated and urged traders and residents to utilize approved market spaces and designated waste disposal channels.

The enforcement operation, which followed a three-day removal notice, involved the seizure of carts from illegal waste handlers and was conducted in collaboration with relevant enforcement agencies to strengthen sanitation enforcement across Lagos State.
