LAWMA Launches Initiative to Engage Youth in Waste Management

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) launched the ‘LAWMA Cares and Lagos Youth Initiative’ at LAWMA Headquarters in Ijora-Olopa. Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, stated that the initiative aims to equip youth with knowledge and skills for responsible waste management and to advance Lagos’ circular economy vision.

Approximately 60 youths from various organizations, including the National Youth Council of Nigeria and the National Association of Nigerian Students, participated in the initiative. The program focuses on deepening youth involvement in waste management through knowledge sharing, advocacy, and collaboration.

Gbadegesin emphasized the importance of exposing young people to waste management operations and creating opportunities for young entrepreneurs in green industries. The initiative also aims to strengthen communication between LAWMA and youth organizations.

Dr Gaji Tajudeen, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Environment, commended LAWMA for engaging youth in environmental issues, urging them to promote responsible waste disposal in their communities. Comrade Quadri Odewunmi, Chairman of NANS Lagos Chapter, pledged support for LAWMA’s efforts.
