Ondo Assembly Crisis: Lawmaker Alleges Assassination Threat

The Ondo State House of Assembly is facing a significant crisis as Hon. Olawumi Fayemi-Obayelu, representing Ilaje Constituency II, claimed she narrowly escaped an assassination attempt due to her investigation into alleged financial impropriety involving the Assembly's leadership and the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC).

Fayemi-Obayelu accused Speaker Rt. Hon.

Olamide Oladiji of diverting funds meant for her constituency and stated that she had been threatened to silence her investigation into alleged bribery and corruption. The controversy centers around approximately N44 million reportedly released by OSOPADEC to the legislature, with dissatisfaction among lawmakers regarding fund management.

Despite calls for his resignation and claims of a loss of confidence from the majority of House members, Oladiji dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated, asserting that he was unaware of any impeachment plot against him. He characterized the situation as fabricated to create unnecessary tension within the Assembly.
