Nigeria Advances Broadband Access Reforms for Growth

Nigerian lawmakers are progressing reforms aimed at expanding broadband access across the country, as articulated by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Okezie Kalu during a speech in Abuja. Kalu highlighted the significance of a digital economy in Nigeria's growth strategy under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.

He noted that the National Assembly is collaborating closely with the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, led by Bosun Tijani, to strengthen the legal framework necessary for this transformation. Kalu emphasized that the digital switch-over is part of a coordinated national effort to build a modern digital economy that benefits all Nigerians.

He praised the role of the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NigComSat) in supporting technological advancements and stressed the need for collaboration among government, private sector, and academia to foster innovation and safeguard public interest. Kalu also commended the National Broadcasting Commission for its efforts in the digital switch-over project, which he described as a significant step towards a fully connected and empowered nation.
