Lawyers Sue Tinubu Over Threats to Peter Obi's Life

Lawyers from the Obident Lawyers Forum, represented by Kingdom Okere and Joseph Ameh, have initiated legal action against President Bola Tinubu, the Attorney-General of the Federation, Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, and three others. The suit, filed on behalf of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Peter Obi, alleges threats to his life.

The plaintiffs seek a court order mandating Tinubu and various security agencies, including the police and DSS, to provide maximum security for Obi and other presidential candidates. This legal action follows Obi's alarming statement during a live podcast, expressing concerns for his safety, and Okpebholo's remarks that Obi should not enter Edo State without permission.

The plaintiffs argue that Obi's constitutional rights to life and freedom of movement are being violated, emphasizing that threats against him are illegal and anti-democratic. The suit is marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1648/2016.
