Lawyers Sue Tinubu for Protection of Peter Obi's Life

Lawyers operating under the Obident Lawyers Forum have initiated legal action at the Federal High Court in Abuja against President Bola Tinubu, the Attorney General of the Federation, the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Service, and the Governor of Edo State. The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1648/2016, was filed to compel authorities to provide special protection for Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), ahead of the 2027 elections.

The lawyers argue that Obi's life is at risk due to a statement from Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, suggesting that Obi's security would not be assured in the state without prior approval. The plaintiffs seek a declaration affirming Obi's fundamental rights, including freedom of movement and protection from threats, intimidation, and harassment, as guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.
