SIFAX Group Urges Youth to Lead Nigeria's Blue Economy

At the 2026 Taiwo Afolabi Annual Maritime Conference held at the University of Lagos, SIFAX Group called on young Nigerians to prepare for leadership roles in the maritime sector, essential for Nigeria's ambition to become Africa's blue economy powerhouse. The address was delivered by Mrs.

Wunmi Eniola-Jegede on behalf of Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, Group Executive Chairman of SIFAX Group.

The conference, organized in partnership with the Maritime Forum, attracted over 2,000 participants from various sectors, marking a decade of a significant student-led maritime initiative. Afolabi emphasized that Nigeria's maritime future relies on investment in human capital rather than just natural resources.

The keynote address by Chudi Offodile, Executive Director at NIMASA, reiterated the government's commitment to youth involvement in the blue economy through initiatives like the Nigerian Seafarers Development Programme and the Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund. The event also included policy dialogues, panel discussions, and the Blueprint Debate Competition.
