Protests Erupt in Osun Over NURTW Leadership Crisis

Protests took place across major motor parks in Osun State, led by members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) against factional chairman Nurudeen Alowonle. The protests, which began early at 6:30 AM, were fueled by allegations that Alowonle posed a security threat and disrupted transport businesses, endangering passenger safety.

Alhaji Fatai Oyegok, the faction's secretary, claimed that Alowonle's actions had crippled transport operations and warned that if left unchecked, they could destabilize peace in Osun. Protesters demanded the arrest of Alowonle and called for increased police protection in motor parks.

Allegations against Alowonle included involvement in retaliatory attacks and possession of arms, which heightened security concerns. Omololu Abidoy, director of the Local Government Development Initiative, criticized the police for their inaction and called for immediate intervention to restore peace and security in the state.

The protests reflect a broader leadership crisis within the NURTW in Osun State.
