Abdul Samad Rabi’u and Nduka Obaigbena Named Leaders of the Year

The Leadership newspaper is awarding its prestigious Man of the Year title to two prominent Nigerian figures: Prince Nduka Obaigbena, a significant media personality, and Abdul Samad Isyaku Rabi’u, a billionaire businessman and chairman of BUA Group of Companies. Rabi’u, born on August 4, 1960, has transformed BUA into a global business empire and is recognized for his philanthropic initiatives, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He was part of the Coalition Against COVID-19, which aimed to provide relief and support. Rabi’u founded the Abdul Samad Rabi’u Foundation, also known as ASR Africa Initiative, pledging $100 million annually, with $50 million designated for Nigeria and the rest for Africa.

His efforts focus on education, healthcare, and rural development, showcasing his belief in using wealth to uplift society. As of 2026, he is noted to be Africa’s second richest person, with a net worth estimated between $13 billion and $19 billion.
