Nigerian Senate Agenda December 3 2025: Key Bills and Proceedings

The Nigerian Senate sat on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025, with several significant items on its agenda.

Four new bills were introduced for First Reading, including a proposed amendment to the Petroleum Industry Act 2021, a bill to establish a National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation in Jos, Plateau State, and another to set up a National Centre for Renewable Energy in Ewato, Edo State.

For Second Reading, senators were scheduled to debate a bill to repeal and replace the existing Legal Practitioners Act with a new one aimed at reforming the legal profession. A second bill proposed classifying kidnapping and hostage-taking as acts of terrorism, with the death penalty prescribed for convicted offenders — no fine or alternative sentence allowed.

On executive business, the Senate was set to consider President Tinubu's request to confirm General Christopher Gwabin Musa as a minister, in line with the 1999 Constitution.

Two committee reports were also listed: one on the federal government halting the sale of Lafarge Cement Plc to Chinese investors over national security concerns, and another on a bill to repeal and re-enact the Electoral Act 2022.

Several committee meetings were scheduled, including an inaugural sitting of an Ad-hoc Committee investigating the Safe Schools Initiative Programme.
