Advocating for Women in Emergency Services in Nigeria

Lifeline Care Association, represented by its founder Dr. Nkem Momah, called for greater inclusion of women in the emergency, rescue, and security sectors during the 9th Road Safety Emergency Response Stakeholders meeting in Abuja, marking the 2026 International Women's Day.

Senator Ireti Kingibe, the keynote speaker, highlighted the positive impact of women in global emergency services and the necessity of gender-diverse teams for improved crisis response. She pointed out that women possess unique strengths that enhance community engagement, particularly for vulnerable groups.

Despite acknowledging the achievements of women in safety roles, Shehu Moham, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), noted ongoing challenges such as limited access to leadership positions and inadequate support systems. Patience Olay urged the government to institutionalize inclusive policies to expand opportunities for women in these fields.

The event featured discussions on the importance of women's involvement in emergency services to reduce accidents and improve community safety.
