EFCC's Account Freeze Raises Election Credibility Concerns

The credibility of elections in Nigeria is under scrutiny due to actions that raise questions about the motives of the government and election organizers. A significant issue arose when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) placed a 'Post No Debit' (PND) on the Osun State Government (OSG) account at First Bank just days before the gubernatorial election scheduled for August 15.

This action is perceived as an attempt to undermine the OSG's popularity and assist the All Progressives Congress (APC) in winning the election. Although the EFCC claims the freeze was due to large transfers, the timing suggests a politically motivated act against a political opponent, as OSG was uniquely targeted despite other states being under investigation.

President Bola Tinubu publicly expressed his disapproval of the EFCC's actions, stating he was unaware of the situation and ordered the EFCC to clarify its stance.
