Liverpool Legend John Toshack Diagnosed with Dementia

John Toshack, a legendary former striker for Liverpool, has been diagnosed with dementia at the age of 77. His son, Cameron Toshack, who is currently the coach in Thailand, confirmed this diagnosis, stating that his father experiences good and bad days with the disease, primarily affecting his short-term memory.

However, Cameron noted that Toshack's long-term memory remains remarkably sharp, especially when recalling details from his playing and managerial career. Recently, Toshack accurately described a Real Madrid match against Arrigo Sacchi's AC Milan, including specific tactical adjustments made to counter Marco van Basten.

Throughout his illustrious career at Liverpool from 1970 to 1978, Toshack formed a prolific strike partnership with Kevin Keegan, winning three English league titles, two UEFA Cups, an FA Cup, a European Cup, and a Charity Shield. After leaving Liverpool, he became player-manager at Swansea City, leading them from the fourth division to the first division and winning three Welsh Cup titles.

Despite his health challenges, Cameron revealed that Toshack continues to offer coaching advice from afar.
