68 Lawyers Elevated to Senior Advocate of Nigeria Rank

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the elevation of 68 legal practitioners to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) during its 174th plenary session held on Thursday in Abuja, under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun. This decision was communicated in a statement by Kabir Akan, Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Secretary of the LPPC.

The SAN rank is awarded to legal practitioners who exhibit exceptional distinction as advocates or contribute significantly to legal scholarship. All successful candidates must complete a mandatory Pre-Swearing-In Induction Programme before the formal conferment, with the date to be announced later.

The LPPC cautioned against the publication of congratulatory messages related to their nomination, warning that violations may lead to sanctions. The swearing-in ceremony for the 68 successful applicants is scheduled for October 12, 2026.

Additionally, Prof. Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri was announced as the successful academic applicant for the 2026 SAN conferment exercise.
