LSSC and Abbei Ranger FC Partner for Football Development

The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) and UK-based Abbei Ranger FC signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday aimed at strengthening grassroots football development in Lagos State. The partnership will focus on seven key pillars, including talent identification, coaching development, sports science, community engagement, policy advisory support, resource mobilization, and infrastructure optimization.

The initiative will feature a statewide scouting program across schools and communities, alongside technical training scholarships for holistic athlete development. LSSC's Director General, Lekan Fatodu, emphasized the importance of education as the foundation for sports development, aiming to place education at the forefront of the sports development agenda to help young athletes make informed choices and leverage sports for career pathways.

Nick Riley, Chairman of Abbei Ranger FC, expressed optimism about the long-term impact of the partnership on player development and infrastructure, noting that the club has been operational since 1976 and currently runs 50 teams for boys and girls aged 3 to 18, with the first team competing in the ninth tier of English football.
