Lufthansa Group Orders 20 Long-Haul Aircraft for $7.7B

Lufthansa Group has announced a significant investment of $7.7 billion for the acquisition of 20 long-haul aircraft, comprising 10 Airbus A350-900s and 10 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. This order was approved by the supervisory board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG on May 11, with the executive board having previously decided to proceed with the purchase.

The delivery of these aircraft is anticipated between 2032 and 2034, and they are intended to replace older long-haul jets across the group's fleet. Carsten Spohr, the Chief Executive Officer of Lufthansa Group, stated that this order reflects the company's commitment to modernizing its fleet and reducing carbon emissions.

The new aircraft are expected to be more fuel-efficient and quieter, contributing to lower emissions compared to older models. This order increases Lufthansa's total aircraft backlog to 232, which includes 107 next-generation long-haul aircraft as part of the group's long-haul renewal program.
