COAS Shaibu Advocates for Enhanced Troop Healthcare Framework

During a statement made on Tuesday, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), highlighted the necessity of a responsive healthcare framework to ensure the physical and mental readiness of troops in the Nigerian Army. This statement was made during a courtesy visit from Rear Admiral Azeez Bayo Afolayan (Retd), the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Defence Health Maintenance Limited (DHML), at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.

General Shaibu noted that the Nigerian Army is engaged in complex operations across six geopolitical zones and that maintaining troop readiness is a strategic priority. He emphasized the importance of a modern healthcare framework that extends beyond active service to include dignified support for veterans.

The General also acknowledged the socio-economic vulnerabilities faced by retirees due to limited access to resources. Afolayan stressed the need for standard operating procedures within military medical units to ensure efficient healthcare delivery and accurate data management for troops and their families.
