Oyo Governor Makinde Takes Leave, Deputy to Oversee State

The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved Governor ‘Seyi Makinde's request to take his annual leave, which will commence on August 10 and conclude on September 11, 2026. During this period, Deputy Governor Adebayo Lawal will manage the state's affairs.

The approval was granted after the assembly considered a formal letter from Makinde during a plenary session on Thursday, adhering to the constitutional requirement for a governor to inform the legislature of any absence from office. The letter was presented by Deputy Speaker Muhammed Fadeyi, who led the session in the absence of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.

Following discussions, the lawmakers unanimously supported the governor's request, expressing confidence in Lawal's capability to ensure the government operates smoothly during Makinde's leave. Notably, Makinde had taken a similar leave around the same time in 2025, returning just before the coronation of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, on September 26, 2025.
