Gumi Denies Accusations of Keeping Moroccan Wife Away

Nasiru Musa Idris accused Kaduna-based Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi of keeping his Moroccan wife away from him for approximately 11 months after he sought Gumi's counseling for her. Idris claimed that his wife had no prior relationship with Gumi and only met him through their marriage.

He alleged that Gumi's actions involved injustice and ill-treatment. Gumi denied the allegations, asserting that the woman had returned to Morocco to live with her parents and threatened to sue Idris for defamation.

Gumi also mentioned that he would not discuss the marital dispute in detail due to an ongoing court case. The disagreement reportedly stemmed from documentation issues regarding their marriage, with Idris claiming Gumi insisted on obtaining a new marriage certificate from a Sharia Court despite existing documents from Morocco and Nigeria.

Idris stated he had presented various documents to validate his marriage, including paperwork from the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian embassy in Morocco.
