Delta Man Arrested for Buying Gun via Snapchat

Igbunu Evan Sapel was arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly purchasing a prohibited firearm, specifically a Beretta pistol, through Snapchat. The police disclosed that the suspect paid N450,000 to a Snapchat vendor for the weapon, which was recovered along with two 9mm ammunition.

During questioning, Sapel stated that he acquired the firearm for safety purposes against unknown gunmen and kidnappers. He also confessed to being involved in internet fraud for three to four years.

The police spokesman, Bright Edaf, emphasized the concerning trend of illegal arms acquisition and the links between internet fraud, cultism, and drug abuse in the state. Edaf reiterated that no individual is permitted to possess firearms for self-protection, as such weapons are classified as prohibited.

The suspect is currently in police custody and will be charged in court.
