Man Sentenced to Seven Years for Defiling Minor in Rivers

On Tuesday, the Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt convicted 25-year-old Jerri Njoku of defiling a 10-year-old girl, sentencing him to seven years of hard labor. The judgment was delivered by Justice Rita Oguguo, who also ordered Njoku to pay a fine of N5 million to support the victim's family.

The prosecution successfully proved the case against Njoku, leading to the conviction. Precious Ordu, the Chief State Counsel from the Rivers State Ministry of Justice, welcomed the judgment, stating it serves as a deterrent against such offenses.

The court's decision aims to ensure that similar acts of defilement are addressed firmly, emphasizing the importance of protecting minors. The victim expressed relief at the outcome, indicating that the judgment would benefit her and serve as a warning to potential offenders.
