Rivers Man Sentenced to Seven Years for Defiling Minor

On Tuesday, the Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt sentenced 25-year-old Jerri Njoku to seven years of hard labor for defiling a 10-year-old girl. The presiding judge, Rita Oguguo, ruled that the prosecution successfully proved the case against Njoku.

In addition to the prison sentence, Njoku was ordered to pay a fine of N5 million to support the victim's family. Precious Ordu, the Chief State Counsel from the Rivers State Ministry of Justice, welcomed the judgment, stating it serves as a deterrent against such offenses.

The court's decision reflects a commitment to justice for victims of defilement, with the intention that the sentence will discourage similar acts in the future. The victim herself expressed relief at the outcome, emphasizing the importance of holding offenders accountable.
