Man Arraigned for Assaulting BEDC Staff in Edo

Oghomwent Uwagbo was arraigned in the Chief Magistrate Court 2 in Oredo, Benin City, for allegedly assaulting a staff member of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) during an official duty visit. The incident reportedly escalated into violence when BEDC officials visited a residence to carry out legitimate duties.

Uwagbo is accused of attacking the staff and damaging their mobile phone. Following the incident, the matter was reported to the police, leading to Uwagbo's arrest and subsequent arraignment.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges. Although his counsel applied for bail, Uwagbo was unable to meet the bail conditions and was remanded in custody pending fulfillment of the terms.

Henri Onovwaka, the head of the BEDC's South Region, expressed concern over the growing trend of threats and attacks on personnel performing official duties and stated that the company would pursue civil action against Uwagbo for damages.
