Man Arrested for Vandalizing Jigawa Forest Fence

Abdullahi Muhammad, a 46-year-old resident of Kasaaga Village in Guri Local Government Area, was arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Jigawa State Command for allegedly vandalizing approximately 10 metres of fencing wire at the Gabasmari Forest Reserve. The arrest occurred on Saturday at about 11:50 am, following credible intelligence and community collaboration, particularly with local farmer Amadu and Birniwa Zonal Forestry Officer Zakar Yau Muhammad.

The damaged fence is part of the Great Green Wall Project, an environmental initiative aimed at combating desertification and protecting forest ecosystems, constructed seven years ago. NSCDC spokesperson ASC Badruddeen Tijjani reported that the reserve is managed by the Forestry Department of the Jigawa State Ministry of Environment.

State Commandant Muhammad Ingawa condemned the vandalism as a direct attack on government investments and emphasized the importance of community partnership in safeguarding public assets. The NSCDC vowed to continue its crackdown on vandals.
