Student Hostel Collapse in Anambra Traps Many Occupants

A three-storey building serving as a student hostel, known as Elite Five Star Lodge, collapsed in the early hours of Monday in Amokpala, Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State. The incident trapped an unknown number of occupants, primarily students.

Eyewitness Ifeoma reported hearing a loud noise before the collapse, which prompted residents and students to rush to the scene. Videos showed a large crowd as rescue workers, security personnel, and volunteers searched for survivors.

The Anambra State Police Command, represented by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and stated that rescue operations were ongoing. Emergency responders, including the Anambra State Fire Service and the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, were mobilized to the site.

While some injured victims have been rescued and taken to a hospital in Oko, the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed. Residents are urged to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.
