NEMA Suspends Rescue Operations at Anambra Building Collapse

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has announced the suspension of search and rescue operations at the site of a collapsed three-storey building in Amaokpala, Anambra State, after successfully clearing at least 50% of the debris. This update was shared on NEMA's official X handle on Monday evening.

The agency indicated that rescue efforts would resume on Tuesday to continue searching for any victims potentially trapped under the remaining rubble. NEMA confirmed that all rescue equipment had been safely shut down following intensive operations by emergency responders.

Priscilla Madukwe, NEMA's Head of Operations, commended the commitment and professionalism of all responding agencies during the operation. She urged stakeholders to remain available and maintain cooperation as rescue activities continue.

The incident raised concerns about several individuals being trapped beneath the rubble, prompting a coordinated multi-agency response involving NEMA, the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
